Alaska's State Flag

WELCOME!
Here, on your computer, Alaska may be a virtual place. For us, Alaska is home. In these virtual pages you will find a little history, geography, politics and sociology from the unique perspective of a handful of lifelong Alaskans. Fairbanks is home to us, so our bias is Interior Alaska but we hope to be fair to the rest of the state as well. Enjoy!

ALASKA IS OUR HOME!
Alaska Map! ALASKA FAQs
People often ask about Alaska, so we will fill you in a bit. For instance, not all Native Americans in Alaska are Eskimos. Not ALL Eskimos like that word. Alaska residents do not get "big oil checks" from the government, but we do get checks! Other common questions: "What does your flag mean?" "Why are there no Indian reservations in Alaska?" "How many hours of daylight do you get?" "Are the summers always so mild and green?" and so much more.

AN ANCIENT LAND
Alaska Flag! ALASKA HISTORY
There is much to know which has shaped the Alaska we know today. Here you will find who "discovered" Alaska, important dates, how places got their names from Native people, the English, the Russians and other explorers. There are also links to history resources.

ALASKA SALMON
Earrings on Red! JEWELRY
Phil is our resident Metalcrafter, specializing in miniature sterling silver salmon. sig-markPhil uses a single design, that of a leaping salmon, designed to be earrings, necklaces, and pins. Available exclusively through Discovery Trading Post Fairbanks, Alaska. Each piece is signed. You may have to call (Toll Free) and ask about the salmon if they are not on the website.

FAVORITE ATTRACTIONS
Discovery III FAVORITES
We favor local family-owned and operated businesses like the Riverboat Discovery tour, Ester Gold Camp, Pike's, Eldorado Gold Mine, and Chena Hot Springs Resort; as well as The University of Alaska -- Museum, Arboretum, Experimental Farm, Musk Ox Farm -- and the Trans Alaska Pipeline viewing area, to name a few. We'll describe and link you to some.

HAL TRAVEL
Halmug HAL & FRIENDS
have been around the block, so to speak, and will provide some suggestions not commonly heard. Of course you are the best judge of what you want to do, risks you want to take; but years of observation and participation will certainly contribute to your knowledge base when it comes to seeing the world. Some of it is that uncommon quality known as Common Sense.

MISCELLANEOUS ON SITE
